Para fortuna de estos inventores, desde el 17 de octubre de 2016, la Organización Mundial de la Propiedad Intelectual (OMPI) en cooperación con el Foro Económico Mundial, ha puesto en marcha el Programa de Asistencia a Inventores (PAI), que es una nueva iniciativa que vincula a inventores y pequeñas empresas de escasos recursos financieros de países en desarrollo con abogados especializados en propiedad intelectual, dispuestos a prestar voluntariamente (pro-bono) sus servicios de asistencia jurídica para la obtención de protección por patente.
