Preventing corruption – Australia's ongoing endeavours

Transparency International recently released its 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI). The CPI ranks 180 countries and territories around the globe by their perceived levels of public sector corruption, scoring on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).

There is good news for Australia with our overall score moving from 75 to 77 (out of 100) and our ranking increasing from 14 to 10. This improvement has been driven by a number of factors, including the introduction of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (the 'NACC') and replacement of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal with the Administrative Review Tribunal. However, more is required to improve our ranking and further prevent corruption domestically.
