The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is the trade organisation for all of the major international carriers representing 290 airlines, roughly 82% of global air traffic. From its European headquarters in Geneva, IATA’s highly skilled legal team provides expert coverage across a whole range of legal topics related to the aviation industry, particularly focusing on its commercial, environmental and social impacts. In July 2019, IATA signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Animal Transport Association (ATA) encouraging the industry adoption of the Centre of Excellence for Independent Validators for Live Animals’ logistics procedures (CEIV Live Animals). This is demonstrative of the breadth of team’s abilities and quality legal coverage. The team has also been active in planning for aviation implications in the event of Brexit, and handling the joining of the association’s new corporate secretary Karen Clayton in the past year.
