What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

The team of six, based out of the Singapore offices, works closely and collaboratively with our business colleagues and senior management to manage global legal operations across Singapore, Malaysia, the United States, China and Europe for the Venture Group. This includes routinely reviewing, negotiating and drafting supply agreements with Fortune 500 companies, negotiating and drafting service agreements relating to all aspects of operations, advising management on strategic business opportunities and projects, supporting on various supply chain initiatives and issues, advising support functions including IT, HR and finance on a varied range of legal matters, supporting our research and development teams with intellectual property management and managing disputes across business segments and varied legal landscapes. The team plays an active role in managing various legal compliance areas and has recently been instrumental in the issuance of a new supplier code of conduct.

Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?

We used existing tools available to us (Excel on Sharepoint, and Teams) to track and update on our matters in a shared space. We also devised ways of recording significant learnings for sharing across the team. This has created a valuable resource which has tangibly led to speedier reviews and reduced duplication of work.

Can you sum up the team culture or ethos?

We are a team of dedicated professionals who constantly deliver results while prioritising the need for a collegiate work environment. We set team goals and work collaboratively to achieve them, band together when things get hard and readily celebrate each other’s successes. We believe that good morale at work is critical and adopt the philosophy that, “when one succeeds, we all succeed”. Outside work, we regularly get together as we really enjoy each other’s company!

Apart from legal matters, has the team worked on other company initiatives?

The team has worked collaboratively with internal stakeholders from business, IT and finance on several new initiatives including enhancing trade compliance processes; updating HR polices and guidelines; developing a consolidated and streamlined internal governance policy relating to contract review, negotiation and approvals and; employing a custom designed IT tool for faster contract approvals.
