Comprised of three legal counsel and one legal assistant, the legal department at the core of the leading Asia-focused alternative investment management firm, Dymon Asia is structured to provide the necessary institutional legal support to the company’s diverse business lines. In relation to the Private Markets business line of the company, the team has impressed with its crucial role in the first venture capital fund, which provides early stage capital to fintech start-ups in Singapore and Southeast Asia. The legal department has also been influential with its support of the firm’s maturing private equity business in relation to its various acquisitions and divestments, and has assisted in the successful first close of its second private equity fund in the fourth quarter of 2017 which raised over US$300m. On the Public Markets side of the business, the team has been instrumental in negotiating various segregated account mandates with major institutional investors and launching various new funds as part of the firm’s seeding and infrastructure platform. The team’s involvement on public and private M&A deals in Southeast Asia has been recognised, with sources pointing out its participation on the voluntary general offer in Singapore for Select Group at a valuation of S$74.75m, as well as the successful divestment of Asia Integrated Facility Solutions to UEM Edgenta (awarded Private Equity Exit of the Year 2017 by the Singapore Venture Capital and Private Equity Association). In addition, Dymon Asia’s legal unit has received praise for its work on the restructuring of the flagship long-short equity fund to a Cayman Islands SPC structure. The team features exceptional individual lawyers, namely, Jason Eng who heads the function as general counsel and chief compliance officer and Sandra Phung.
