Could you tell us a bit about your significant successes in your role?

I am the contract and senior legal manager at Reckitt for México, Central America, the Caribbean and the Andean Region. I am responsible for reviewing, training and authorising commercial and contractual negotiations with clients and suppliers of each Latam entity for the company’s nutrition and health BUs, among other functions — corporate, labour, tax, and criminal.

I believe it is essential to highlight the role of legislative updates and how they support the company when implemented. A notable example is the one related to the reform in México, in the matter of ‘specialised services, for which I obtained a Global Award for an elegant and pragmatic implementation, training and advice of the labour reform in the current legal entities in Mexico.

In your opinion, what are the qualities and skills needed to form a strong legal team?

I think a strong team is made of three core values — communication, respect, and trust. Having these foundations allows for forging empathy in the team and makes each person work optimally in each area of expertise. In this way, a legal team becomes multifunctional, supporting their business partners, and creating a synergy that makes success develop.

What is the biggest risk to your industry, and how are you contributing to prepare your organisation for this?

Nowadays, interactions with customers and suppliers have had to be renewed, derived from the different changes that we have had as a society of the changes that have taken place locally in each country —for example, the reform in México related to specialised services —these matters made necessary an update in the way in which corporate lawyers make decisions and execute their actions.

It has worked for me and has contributed a lot to my career, carrying out my duties in a practical and empathic way. Seeking solutions to complex matters as quickly as possible, always looking to meet the needs of the business accompanied by the highest legal security that applies to each matter. As attorneys, we must work with internal clients and service areas that usually do not know about legal issues. I think that part of my success comes from being a real business partner supporting solutions that everyone can easily understand. In this way, a topic that can be complex is explained in a simple way, resulting in successful execution.
