Having worked on some of the largest M&A transactions ever seen in the African energy sector, Mark Russell has developed a reputation as one of the most knowledgeable and expert professionals in advising on the legal aspects of these deals. Having advised a number of different clients at all stages of transactions, he has developed an expertise in project development and financing, joint venturing and M&A, commercial contracts and trading. Some of the transactions he has worked on include Eni’s US$7+bn disposals to ExxonMobil and CNPC in Mozambique and Ophir Energy’s US$1.3bn disposal to Pavilion Energy in Tanzania. Further examples include advising on the development and financing of major LNG liquefaction projects, including the landmark US$11bn Coral South FLNG Project in Mozambique as well as the Government of South Africa on its 3GW integrated LNG to Power procurement programme.
