Norwegian Ministry of Finance

About

The Norwegian Ministry of Finance is the Norwegian government department responsible for implementation and analysis of government policy on taxation, regulation, financial markets, financial institutions, government and private pension schemes and the rules and regulations of accounting and auditing in Norway. The department also works to develop the government’s budget proposals and works with other departments on its implementation. There are high quality lawyers throughout the Ministry providing legal coverage to all of its decisions and actions and providing advice on the implementation of new regulations and policies. For example, the King in Council has issued new regulations on monetary policy for the first time since 2001 changing the target rate of inflation in its strategy. Additionally lawyers for the ministry worked on the drafting of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with finance ministers across the Baltic and Nordic regions pledging closer cooperation on cross border financial stability. Within the Ministry there are sub-departments which handle specific matters according to their expertise. The tax law department, led by director general Omar G Dajani, is one such example, and is responsible for the drafting, interpretation and administration of all taxes and national insurance contributions as well as the negotiation
of double tax treaties and other international tax treaties.
