National Bank of Kuwait

About

Incorporated in 1952, the National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) occupies a particularly important place in the economic history of the Gulf, as it was the very first indigenous bank and shareholding company in the region. The company retains its place at the forefront of banks in the region, and now boasts a net operating income of $2.4bn, as well as the largest chain of overseas branches of any Gulf bank. Soliman AbdelMeguid heads up the legal affairs division at NBK and has a rich academic legal background, having both achieved a Ph.D. in Law and produced a number of publications on legal matters. At a time when many banks in the Middle East have had their credit ratings downgraded in the face of increased economic uncertainty, NBK has bucked the trend by receiving an affirmation of its A+ rating from Standard & Poor. This can undoubtedly be attributed in part to an appreciation for the competency inherent in the corporate team at NBK, with the legal team and AbdelMeguid a prime example of this.
