About

Dubai’s ambitions of becoming a global centre for commodities trading was made clear in 2002 when the government established the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) free zone. Today the more than 11,000 member companies operating in the free zone rely on the DMCC to provide the physical and financial infrastructure to trade in commodities ranging from gold to tea, commodity-related financial instruments and the industrial, commercial and residential real estate that supports these activities. Overseeing the legal requirements related to DMCC’s role as licensor and operator of this infrastructure is a small but world-class legal team led by general counsel Kiran Scarr. The eight-member team is praised for its ability to identify strategic risks and opportunities, greatly contributing to DMCC’s rapid growth and helping to support Dubai’s ambitions to develop into a sustainable twenty-first-century economic centre of power. The team has recently been involved in the development of the Burj 2020 District, a mixed-use commercial and residential zone that will house one of the tallest towers in the world.
