GE Capital – Industrial Finance

About

The Industrial Finance arm of GE Capital provides financing solutions to GE Industrial businesses and their global customers through a wide range of products and financing solutions. Emiliano Verniero is the senior counsel, managing director and business site leader at the company in Italy and is in charge of a legal team comprised of approximately 20 people. Having experienced a recent realignment owing to GE recently undertaking a more streamlined business model, Verniero’s team is well equipped to deal with the changing nature of both the company and the legal and regulatory environment. As he explains, the business has been ‘transforming into a digital industrial company’ and the legal team is leading the way in this regard; having been entrusted to explore digital solutions for ‘contract formation and management as well as tracking and monitoring developing laws and regulations around the globe that are applicable to our global business operation’. Innovation in this sense is at the core of the team’s work, Verniero explaining how it ‘formalised an Early Warning System to effectively track and monitor material changes in laws and regulations that may impact the way we conduct business in all our countries’. Such embrace of technology is in-line with the company’s culture change in recent years, which is closely tied to inspiration and connection requiring a great deal of trust. This trust is, as Verniero explains, ‘one of the pillars of our organisation and the legal team perfectly reflects it into its day-to-day activities’, and was achieved by the close collaboration on challenging issues. He adds that these challenges were taken on ‘as a team where no one team member faced a challenge by themselves, accepting constructive feedback, using good judgment to protect clients, nurturing mutually beneficial relationships with open communication and being accountable leaders’. The team had ‘intimate involvement’ in GE’s $10bn valued acquisition of Alstom along with its $5.4bn divestiture of GE Appliance division, Verniero stating that the team ‘contributed significantly’ in each.
