The Clear Channel France legal and compliance team is led by Patrick Remot and structured according to three departments: compliance, private law (headed by Naouel Khellaf) and public law and regulatory affairs (headed by Xavier Françoise). The legal department has greatly enhanced its ability to deal with litigations and competition cases, and has had an extremely important role to play in the implementation of comprehensive compliance programme in response to the Sapin II anti-corruption legislation and GDPR. The team’s achievement in this sphere has seen it awarded the silver trophy at an awards ceremony to elect “the compliance department of the year 2018” for France. In the litigation area, Remot reports, ‘in January 2018, and for the second time the previous victory before the council of state was in September 2017, we have won a lawsuit against the city of Paris and JC Decaux. With this success, the tender about street furniture between the city of Paris and JC Decaux has been cancelled and Clear Channel France is the new preferred bidder in this tender – around €250m of turnover and therefore an extremely significant success. This is all the more so because Clear Channel France has won again before JC Decaux –in a lawsuit against Clear Channel France to challenge the tender mentioned above- in May 2019’. Going on to appraise the team, Remot is extremely positive of his team’s attitude: ‘The legal and compliance department always searches for solutions that are in line with being a good business partner to the company and we strive to have the best organisation in order to be efficient. To achieve this, we are naturally rigorous in our work, but also creative and very open to digital technology, as well as any other resource we can use to help us to be better. For example, we made videos and motion design utilising legal technology to help the employees of the company to have a deeper understanding of GDPR and compliance and we have recently signed a contract with a start up to help us to digitise our GDPR governance’.
