Managing one of the largest real estate portfolios in Canada, RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust (RioCan) has an expert in-house legal team led by senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary Jennifer Suess. A commercial real estate institution across Canada, since 1993 RioCan has invested in commercial real estate developments across the country amassing a total enterprise value of C$13.7bn, as of September 2018. The legal team has been at the heart of this development and growth through its considered advice for all property and real estate law matters. In 2018, RioCan invested in a new residential branch of its portfolio, creating RioCan Living, launching eight developments last year. The first development ready to lease was announced in November 2018 and is its flagship rental location, “eCentral”, located in midtown Toronto. With the other developments scheduled for lease later this year, 2018 was a successful year for RioCan and its legal department is worthy of this recognition.
