Macquarie’s group legal department in Australia is made up of lawyers specialising in a range of different practice areas to provide a full service to the Group in terms of legal risk mitigation and strategic commercial advice. With a structure that sees a general counsel take charge of each of Macquarie’s individual business units and report directly to the group legal general counsel and the relevant business unit head, the team is able to provide specialist advice in a precise but joined-up manner. Consistent with the diversified financial services the Group offers, legal staff are expected to provide relevant and actionable advice to enable the numerous transactions to run smoothly, enable individual Macquarie businesses to understand the legal and regulatory framework and operate accordingly, assess dispute resolution proceedings and threatened actions and, as far as reasonably practical, minimise or mitigate associated risks.
