Founded in 1993, New Zealand’s Kiwi Property Group is one of the most respected property developers in the country, boasting a market capitalisation of almost $2bn NZD and a total value of owned and managed property of $3bn NZD as of August 2017. The Group primarily invests in retail space, owning and operating some of the most notable such sites in New Zealand, including Sylvia Park shopping and business centre and LynMall, the country’s first shopping centre which was opened in 1963. Leading the team of in-house legal real estate experts that make up Kiwi Property Group’s legal team is Trevor Wairepo, general counsel and company secretary. Wairepo has practiced for over 15 years in both New Zealand and the United Kingdom, finally moving to Kiwi Property Group in June 2014. Leading from the front, he heads up a team that has enabled the company to continue the frenetic pace of new acquisitions that has characterised its strategy. Expansion is on the horizon for the Group, and the company announced plans in June 2017 for a $161m NZD capital raising venture which will herald a further round of acquisitions and involvement of the company’s legal department.
