Football Federation Australia (FFA) has recently achieved some notable successes towards its aim of nurturing and growing the sports of soccer, futsal and beach soccer throughout Australia. In December 2016, The FFA announced a $346m AUD deal with Fox Sports to broadcast all A-League games over the next six years. The successful conclusion of this landmark deal, which is a significant improvement in terms of revenue when compared to previous broadcast deals, was due in no small part to the actions of the FFA legal team. Its expertise on broadcast agreements, in common with other national sports associations for highly in-demand sports, is required to be of a very high calibre, though FFA legal team members excel in other areas also. Head of legal and business affairs Tim Holden is the new leader of the legal function, having progressed into his current position in July 2017. This is the culmination of a long career at the FFA for Holden, who has honed his skills as a sporting legal specialist in the Federation since February 2009. Holden’s knowledge base, in combination with that already displayed by the rest of the team, sees the legal function of the organisation in a fantastic position to move the sport of soccer to the next level in Australia.
