About

Representing over 100,000 professional members in Australia, New Zealand and overseas, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) was created in 2013 following the amalgamation of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants. To handle legal affairs, the organisation hired Seshani Bala as general counsel in 2015 who in turn recruited legal counsel Janna Zeglis in 2016 to create a compact legal team. A key part of the legal function’s activity is supporting CA ANZ in lodging policy submissions that impact the businesses and communities of its members. One of the most recent submissions concerns New Zealand’s implementation of a multilateral convention to implement tax treaty related measures that prevent base erosion and profit shifting. In 2017, the legal team assisted CA ANZ to create a new partnership with Pinnacle Life who will now provide the organisation’s members with direct life insurance products.
