Katherine Grace is recognised by many as one of Australia’s leading property lawyers. In her previous role as Westfield Retail Trust’s GC, she completed the Trust’s merger with Westfield Group. ‘The $29bn transaction was contentious, complicated, and involved working closely with my board, executive team and advisers to deliver a successful outcome for security holders’, Grace says. Heading legal and company secretarial at Australia’s largest diversified property group, sources highlight her efforts to heighten efficiency and bring the department closer to the business. Her previous employers include Multiplex, Pacific Capital Partners and Valad Property Group. Grace feels outside counsel sometimes need to improve their understanding of ‘how risk is assessed and managed in the corporate space’.
