Julie Galligan has supported Transurban during a period of ambitious growth in the jurisdiction, and has worked on some of Australia’s most complex and innovative infrastructure projects in the process. One source particularly points to her role in the Queensland Motorways and Cross City Tunnels’ acquisitions, involving debt and equity raisings and the development of NorthConnex Motorway in New South Wales. ‘In addition to these projects, the company has been expanding its technology and operating platforms and Julie’s team has been responsible for the legal arrangements underpinning these’, a source adds. ‘She leads a highly motivated, young and talented legal team covering a broad range of legal and business areas. She does all this with determination and a minimum of fuss’. Managing 19 lawyers across Australia and the US, Galligan sees the team she has built as among her greatest professional achievements. ‘I have been general counsel for three and a half years and in that time I have grown and developed the internal legal function to respond to a rapidly-growing business’, she says. ‘The legal team is highly respected by the business for their commercial and pragmatic legal advice. Supporting the business during a period of significant million- and billion-dollar project activity has been among the biggest challenges of her in-house career, Galligan says. Having previously worked in-house at Associated Ports, she has wide-reaching knowledge of national infrastructure concerns.
