For over 20 years Gail Hambly has served as the group general counsel and company secretary of Fairfax Media, one of the largest media companies in Australia and New Zealand with output and investments in newspaper, magazines, radio and internet. During this time, Hambly has presided over the provision of legal services across the Group along with company secretarial services throughout Fairfax Media and to the Board. In addition to the regulatory and legislative issues she presides over for the company, Hambly, as a respected senior member of the business, is known to play a ‘key role’ in the company’s core management team. A commercial and media law specialist, Hambly’s abundant experience and insight go further than her group general counsel role. She is also a member of the Media and Communications Committee and the Privacy Committee for the Law Council of Australia, a member of the Advisory Board for the Centre of Media and Communications Law at the Melbourne Law School, a member of Chartered Secretaries Australia and of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Hambly also acts as the Chair of CopyCo Pty Limited, a Director of Trade Me Limited and Sydney Story Factory.
