Spotlight on Matthew Paterson

In March 2020, Matthew joined Fletcher Building, overseeing the legal affairs of all Australian Fletcher Building businesses. As General counsel, Matthew leads a legal team of five lawyers, overseeing all activities including commercial, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, competition, litigation, M&A, risk management and related matters. This team takes pride in working alongside the business to meet and exceed set targets.

Paterson’s team works closely with all Australian business units in a transparent way to deliver cost-effective, practical legal and regulatory advice. Innovation plays a key part in this role, challenging the status quo to deliver quality results and protect the organisation. Whether providing support via external counsel, specialist advice or designing a better approval process – the team, led by Matthew measures performance metrics and clearly communicates its value to the business.

Matthew Paterson is well suited to carry out these functions, having previously worked at Digicel Group, where he served as group head of legal, and oversaw all legal and commercial matters across the Carribean. He also serves as the Australian Privacy Officer and leads the inaugural Australian Privacy Group.
