What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in? 

I oversee a diverse multiplicity of tasks that range from general commercial matters, regular contractual, litigation, corporate matters, privacy, antitrust, strategic compliance issues, to complex contractual matters such as technology transfer agreements, and the recent participation on a global spin off part of the MSD business. 

I also provide advice to the executive committees of the countries I supervise, legal and compliance support in the implementation of digital and data analytics capabilities, social media, and digital devices. In addition, I give legal and operational support to assess, manage, and mitigate compliance risks. At a regional level, I’m in charge of supporting the regional team in digital and data initiatives, and social media. 

Globally, I am a member of the international legal and compliance Centre of Excellence for Global Oncology Alliances, representing the Latin America region. In addition, I am a member of the Cross Regional Group, a team that helps to develop specific digital tools for the international legal and compliance group; and a member of the legal technology committee, a group that helps to develop technology initiatives for the entire OGC community. 

Do you use any “legal tech” products and do you find them a helpful management device? 

We do not use specific legal tech on a day-to-day basis; however, I work on a global task to help develop legal tech for the entire OGC. 

How much influence do you, as a general counsel, have on the diversity and inclusions policies of your organisation? 

Merck and MSD have a strong commitment in terms of diversity and inclusion. Legal and compliance department works as a pilar not only for consultation and advice regarding the development of diversity and inclusion initiatives, but also as a member of the Grand & Donations Committee, and an active member of pro-bono programmes.
