What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

I am responsible for the litigation department within legal. We manage a variety of litigation portfolio regarding Group HSBC, which includes class actions, labour, civil and commercial cases.

Do you use any “legal tech” products and do you find them a helpful management device?

Yes, we use several legal tech products in order to manage the litigation portfolio and claims. This product allows law firms to update developments and provisions, and to communicate with in-house lawyers. In addition, we deployed a software to exchange documentation with external providers in a secure way in order to avoid e-mails. In order to answer prejudicial claims, we use a software for registration and follow-up of queries to the Legal area.

How much influence do you, as a general counsel, have on the diversity and inclusions policies of your organisation?

We work as an entity in order to influence on diversity and inclusion. Diversity of people at all levels, focusing on the development of our team and top. We are vigilant to ensure that our succession plans capture representation across diversity groups. We actively promote role models and genuine inclusive leadership. In addition, a statement on job description is comprised to encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds and experience to apply.

Additionally, we encourage external legal suppliers by requesting relevant firms of our panel firms’ data related to their diversity and inclusion internal policies, culture and activities as part of the performance and compliance due diligence. Our ambition is to embrace the benefits of diverse external legal advice.

Lastly, we do pro bono work, partnering up with legal volunteering opportunities, focused particularly on diversity and inclusion. Since 2019, we have been working with the pro bono commission promoted by the City of Buenos Aires’ Bar Association, a space that invites and brings together lawyers to work in cases of public interest, understanding law as a tool for social change and access to justice. The commission has more than 1,600 professionals, working together with peer organizations in Latin America.
