First National Bank of Botswana (FNBB)

About

A subsidiary of South African banking institution FirstRand, First National Bank of Botswana (FNBB) is a financial institution operating in the Botswanan commercial banking sector. The bank, through its “Pick n Pay” franchise, operates sales and service channels called FNBB Kiosks. These kiosks are found in identified Pick n Pay stores that are being converted from supermarkets. The bank is well known across the region for its promotion of electronic banking and for the introduction of a number of ground-breaking innovations in the Botswanan market. In 2016, the bank introduced its eBUCKS rewards programme, which provides qualifying customers with the opportunity to get a reward when they purchase prepaid airtime or prepaid electricity through FNBB’s electronic channels. The bank is rewarding customers for their loyalty and for embracing the many first-to-market solutions such as telephone banking, online banking, eWallet and many more. FNBB’s legal department supports the bank across its three brands in Botswana, namely Rand Merchant Bank (the investment bank), FNB (the retail and commercial bank) and WesBank (the instalment finance provider). The legal team has made its mark on the company in recent years with its ability to conduct speedy negotiations of key contracts for the bank, effectively manage new laws and to protect the bank’s intellectual property. Without the comprehensive and consistent support of the legal team, FNBB would have found it much harder to launch its range of unique products, ultimately impacting financial performance.
