Career

Alex Littlefair joined Trinity after practising as a solicitor. He specialised in personal injury and clinical negligence at a leading national claimant firm before gaining commercial experience at a shipping law firm in Newcastle.

Personal Injury/Clinical Negligence

Alex has experience of both claimant and defendant work, successfully representing both claimants and defendants. Typical cases involve RTAs, accidents or illness abroad and workplace injury.

He has also conducted complex clinical negligence cases, including cases on consent. Successfully concluded cases include:

delayed diagnosis of cancer stillbirth maternal injuries in childbirth post-operative infection.

Alex also represents clients at inquests; this includes deaths in hospital and cases arising out of industrial disease.

Costs & Procedure

Alex appeared for the successful claimant in Hilton v Proudfoot (2019), a case concerning the applicability of the fixed costs regime.

He is often instructed in relation to high-value costs and case management conferences for both claimants and defendants. He also has a wide-ranging experience of relief from sanctions applications.

Coroner's Inquests & Human Rights

Alex represents families and interested parties in the Coroner’s court and has extensive experience of Article 2 inquests.

He has also represented health professionals and service providers at inquests.

Education Law

Alex represents schools and local authorities in the First-tier Tribunal (Special Educational Needs and Disability). He is well used to securing practical solutions to such cases.

Alex has a history degree from Fitzwilliam College Cambridge where he also gained an MPhil. in Historical Studies. He then worked as an MP’s assistant before studying Law at Hull University where he gained a First Class degree, including winning the JL Lee Prize for Common Law.

Languages: French (conversational) Away from the law Alex enjoys playing rugby, cycling and watching Yorkshire play cricket in Scarborough.
