Position

Anthony practises in regulatory, employment and business & property law.  He has recently been re-appointed to the panel of counsel to the Welsh Government.  He accepts instructions via the direct access scheme.

Regulatory: Anthony is instructed in the more complex regulatory and public law matters. Frequently there may be issues regarding trading, licensing or enforcement and he is used to appearing in many different forums. Anthony is instructed by local authorities, regulators, government departments, police authorities, businesses, company directors and individuals in advisory work, civil proceedings and prosecutions ranging from health and safety, trading standards, environment, welfare and environmental health to care standards, planning enforcement, companies, inquests and fraud. Appointed initially to the Attorney General’s Panel in 2001, he was then appointed in 2012 to List A of Specialist Regulatory Advocates for health and safety and environmental matters. He has considerable experience in arguing for the defence in connection with statutory defences, procedures and abuse of process.

Cases have included trade marks/copyright: (Gilham [2009] EWCA Crim 2293 CA [2009] WLR (D) 324); incidents in factories, farms & schools etc, E. coli prosecutions in South Wales (John Tudor (2007) & Northern Ireland, as well as the public inquiry before Professor Pennington; care home licensing issues and neglect; TB testing, cow passports, fraud; proceeds of crime; companies; acting for the Welsh Government in public inquiries re extensions to the A40 in West Wales. 

Business and property: Anthony advises and represents in contract, commercial and property disputes (eg title disputes over cars: Family Finance v JD Cleverly & Anr [2009] EWCA 1477) and consumer protection matters.

Employment: acting for claimants and respondents in unfair dismissal and discrimination cases.  Acting for the police in disciplinary proceedings.

Dispute resolution: Anthony also mediates in a wide range of disputes both within a community and a commercial setting; Anthony qualified as a mediator with CEDR (1995) with Southwark Mediation Centre (1998) and with ADR Group (2002).
