The firm mainly acts for individual clients and focuses on providing these clients and their families with specialist advice in niche areas, such as Medical Negligence and Immigration Law, in addition to offering a full legal service in the core areas of Litigation, Family Law, Private Client and Conveyancing.

Head office is located in Edinburgh, with branch offices located in Bathgate, Bearsden, Bishopbriggs, Dalkeith, East Kilbride, Glasgow and Musselburgh. This structure benefits clients who can access advice from a local solicitor while at the same time receiving high-quality specialist representation from across the firm.

 Types of work undertaken

The firm’s commitment to providing legal excellence in niche areas is underlined by the number of solicitors who hold accredited specialisations from the Law Society of Scotland. The firm has accredited Law Society specialists in the areas of Medical Negligence, Family Law, Immigration and Personal Injury.

Medical Negligence: The Medical Negligence team is highly rated on the pursuer side, with more accredited experts than any other Scottish practice. The firm’s Medical Negligence team is led by partner, Liesa Spiller. Leisa is highly rated within the industry and by UK Chambers and The Legal 500.

Partners Liesa Spiller, Susith Dematagoda, Carrie Burrows and Lindsay Macdonald are all accredited in clinical negligence law by the Law Society of Scotland, and deal exclusively with claims for pursuers. Experienced partner Andrew Pollock leads the Glasgow team.

The team specialises in all types of Medical Negligence claims including: birthing injuries; missed diagnoses; surgical; cancer; orthopaedic; GP failures; nursing failures and fatal injuries.

Immigration Law: The firm’s Immigration Team is unrivalled in Scotland in terms of both its size and the length of experience of its senior team members including partners David Brown, Sarah Jack, Janey Armstrong, Humphrey Ndubuisi, Anna Rani and Lauryn McCrorie.

David Brown, Partner and Head of Immigration, has practised for over 25 years and is a Band 1 ranked lawyer by Chambers. David sits on the Accreditation Panel of the Law Society and is on the UNHCR Panel of Solicitors.

General Litigation: The General Litigation team is led by partners Miranda Becher and Laura McDonagh.  Miranda is an accredited specialist in personal injury litigation, whilst Laura is widely recognized as an expert in the field of Judicial Review.

The team undertakes a wide variety of cases in the Sheriff Court and Court of Session including personal injury, judicial review, commercial actions and statutory appeals.  The team also handles Edinburgh agency work for a large number of solicitor firms from out with Edinburgh, for which it is highly regarded.

Family Law: The Family Law team is headed by Lynne Stratford who, as well as being recognised by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in this field, is also a trained collaborative lawyer and family law mediator.

The Family Law team is spread across offices, allowing the firm to provide specialist advice at a local level. It has a large Court of Session practice in the Edinburgh office headed by partner Linsey Ferguson who undertakes a wide range of instructions on behalf of individual clients and other solicitors from throughout Scotland, including cases involving international child abduction. In Glasgow, partner Lorna Turner has over 16 years’ experience in Family Law and deals with a wide range of issues including divorce/separation, resolution of financial issues, residence/contact of children, pre-nuptial agreements, protective orders and Children’s Hearings.

The team is able to offer advice covering the whole spectrum of family law and strives to offer a personal and compassionate service to clients at some of the most difficult times of their lives.

Private Client: The Private Client team is led by partner Charles Ogilvie. He has particular expertise in guardianships, intervention orders and other matters relating to adults with incapacity.

Sharon Fleming, partner in the Bathgate office, advises individuals and families on a broad range of private client matters, such as Wills, Powers of Attorney and Executry Administration.

Conveyancing: The Conveyancing Team is led by partners Alison Murphy and Scott Cowie in Glasgow and Wilson Browne and Jean McAlpine in Edinburgh, specialising in all residential conveyancing matters with a deep understanding of local property markets and a strong track record of achieving results for a wide range of clients.
