About

7 King’s Bench Walk is a leading commercial set whose members advise and represent clients across the full breadth of commercial law. Members are recognised for their intellectual rigour, outstanding advocacy and practical approach to resolving complex international and domestic disputes.

A great strength of 7KBW is that every member of Chambers practises in the field of commercial law. This provides a relatively unique concentration of expertise, and that breadth and depth of expertise enables Chambers to assemble the right team for each matter, from substantial disputes requiring silks and juniors to cases calling for focused specialist advice or representation.

What we do

Members provide specialist advice and advocacy across the full range of commercial law, including:

  • Litigation and arbitration: representing clients at every stage of a dispute, from initial advice and pleadings to written and oral submissions, cross-examination, hearings and trials.

  • Advisory work: advising on commercial disputes and legal issues through written opinions, conferences and other forms of consultation.

  • Mediation: preparing position papers and representing clients in mediations.

  • Expert evidence: providing expert evidence on English law for use in foreign court proceedings and arbitrations.

Members of 7KBW also sit as independent arbitrators in a wide variety of disputes and a number of members are qualified mediators who accept instructions to act in a range of civil and commercial disputes. 7KBW has a dedicated Arbitration and Mediation clerking team.

Where we practise

Members regularly appear at every level of the civil courts of England and Wales, from the County Court to the Supreme Court. A substantial proportion of Chambers’ work is conducted in the Commercial Court and in related appeals.

Members also act in domestic and international arbitrations seated in London and other jurisdictions. They have experience before tribunals operating under a wide range of institutional and specialist rules, including those of the LMAA, GAFTA, FOSFA, LOF, Lloyd’s disciplinary tribunals, LAS (tiers 1 and 2), CIArb, LCIA, ICC, UNCITRAL and ICSID.

Members are frequently instructed in proceedings overseas. In recent years, they have appeared as counsel before courts and tribunals in Hong Kong, Singapore, the Cayman Islands, Bermuda, The Bahamas, the British Virgin Islands, France, Switzerland, Guernsey, Jersey, the United States, Canada, the Netherlands and St Vincent.
