KCH Garden Square > Set Profile
KCH Garden Square is a multi disciplinary set that offers a specialist service within the areas of crime, civil and family law. With offices located at Nottingham and Leicester it is suitably based to serve court centres throughout the Midlands and often beyond.
Client wise, chambers still continues to support a vast array of customers. These include the CPS, local authorities in respect of childcare/public law work as well as within civil law matters and private client work. Chambers retains a proud loyalty towards local firms who have instructed for many years and can boast an impressive instruction retention rate in this respect. This awareness of strong client relationships is fundamental to how it operates, meeting clients’ needs and providing consistent excellence, from initial instruction until the completion of the case and beyond. In recent times chambers has seen a rise in instruction for more complex and led cases. In addition, many members are direct access qualified meaning that chambers can also expand services and offer access to counsel to members of the public directly.
Chambers is proud of its reputation for outstanding service and excellence in all areas of advocacy and stands by its motto of ‘Clear, Compelling and Approachable’ With over 70 tenants, chambers can boast some of the most reputable and experienced advocates throughout the Midlands and includes Recorders and Deputy District Judges within its ranks.
Members are actively involved in writing academic articles and some members have had publications. Furthermore, some members are involved in lecturing law at a local university and this remains of significant value to chambers whilst also enhancing its links to the local law community. In more recent times, in addition to being one of the first chambers to develop bespoke remote hearing hubs, chambers has invested in its education of future barristers by successfully piloting a ‘virtual mini pupillage scheme’ which takes place over the course of one day where potential future counsel can attended virtually and go through various workshops and ask questions of the panel. Additionally, chambers continues to put forward lectures, articles, workshops and other training events, both in-house as well as externally. Chambers remains committed to training it’s junior members, offers CPD sessions and has recently been successful in becoming a registered AETO provider. Chambers remains active on circuit, and has regularly been successful in having members appointed to the post of Assistant Circuit Junior (Family)
On the staffing front, Chambers is run in a unique fashion, in that there are two practice directors, one for crime and one for civil and family, who together with chambers’ chief operating officer form the chambers staff management team. The staff management team is very well supported by the two practice management teams with years of experience in their relevant fields as well as administration staff. This is a modern and progressive approach that has served chambers well for a number of years in what has been an ever changing and challenging legal landscape.
