    Chloe Griggs is a specialist criminal barrister with an established practice in both prosecution and defence work.

    Career

    She is consistently ranked in both Chambers & Partners and The Legal 500. She is a CPS Grade 4 Prosecutor, a member of the Rape and Serious Sexual Offences Panel, and prosecutes on behalf of the Complex Casework Unit. She has extensive trial and advisory experience in complex, serious cases, including murder, rape, firearms, serious violence and drug conspiracies. Chloe is consistently recognised as a well-prepared, thorough, and astute advocate.

    Chloe began her career as a Crown Prosecutor in the East Midlands. She conducts voluntary work on behalf of Gray’s Inn and the University of the West of England. She has acted as a mentor for undergraduate and BPTC students.

    Operation Berber (2024) Bristol Crown Court – Defence of building surveyor for fraudulently submitting invoices over £1 million to the National Trust.

    Operation Harbinger Two (2023) Exeter Crown Court – Prosecution of 21 defendants for the trafficking of £1.4million worth of cocaine and heroin from Merseyside to Devon and Cornwall using 40 supply phone lines.

    Operation Begonia (2022) Bristol Crown Court - Prosecution of a woman accused of murdering her partner. She had a significant history of perpetuating violence upon him in the form of assaults, previous stabbings and previous threats to kill. Psychiatric evidence was a key feature of the trial.

    Operation Saline (2022) Bristol Crown Court - Defence of a woman accused of murdering her partner. A professor in public protection was permitted to give expert evidence on the subject of controlling and coercive behaviour - a landmark development in how evidence of domestic abuse can be adduced in a criminal trial.

    R v J&D (2020) Exeter Crown Court – Prosecution of a man and woman for child cruelty of a 17 month old toddler with up to 20 areas of injuries. The trial involved complicated expert evidence from four forensic odontologists to identify bite marks, as well as consultant paediatricians and pathologists.

    Operation Apex (2019) Birmingham Crown Court – Conspiracy to commit robberies of very high-value motor vehicles using aggressive confrontation on multiple victims. The four-week trial included a hit-and-run road-traffic incident leaving a 67-year-old man seriously injured, and perverting the course of justice by concealing the appearance of the motor vehicle used. The evidence at trial involved analysis of complex telephony, particularly where some offenders tried unsuccessfully to conceal identities. The ringleader, who pleaded guilty, received a consecutive term to the earliest release date of his existing life sentence.

    Operation Thorne (2017) Plymouth Crown Court - High-profile six-week trial of a British woman who live-streamed sexual abuse of a very young child over Skype to another woman in San Francisco. Collaborative investigation between UK and FBI. Evidence from serving prisoner taken via live TV link from California over several days in which court sat from midafternoon to early evening, to accommodate time difference. Further live evidence from FBI Agents. Accomplice evidence. Cross-examination of toxicologist and gynaecological surgeon called by the Defence.
