Fountain Court Chambers

The set: Fountain Court is a leading commercial set of chambers with 90 barristers, 42 of whom are silks. It is one of most prestigious sets in the UK and internationally, with chambers in London and Singapore, the latter which opened in September 2014.

Chambers has a long-standing history with Singapore, which began when Christopher Bathurst KC (Viscount Bledisloe KC), a senior member of Fountain Court and a leading practitioner at the Commercial Bar in London, developed a substantial practice in Southeast Asia. Fountain Court’s members have continued to build on this connection.

Whilst members frequently work in the region, Andrew Pullen joined chambers in Singapore in 2017 as the first barrister based in its Singapore office in Ocean Financial Centre. Andrew has 15 years’ experience as an arbitration lawyer, having previously practised as a solicitor-advocate. Andrew is supported by the full-time practice manager, Caroline McConnon, also based in the Singapore office. Members are proud to be working alongside some of the best local and foreign law firms in Singapore and in Asia and supporting them and their clients.

Areas of practice: Fountain Court has a global client base and is frequently instructed by (or to defend against) the UK and other overseas governments, FTSE 100 companies, banks, financial institutions and regulators, and high-net-worth individuals. Chambers’ expertise and service are consistently excellent and this has been recognised by the legal awards the set has won.

Members of Fountain Court are recognised leaders in the fields of banking, financial services and regulation, business and regulatory crime, civil fraud, insurance/reinsurance, professional negligence, professional discipline, aviation and employment. Chambers is also notable for the wide range of other work undertaken, including energy, oil and gas, company, insolvency, product liability, administrative and public law, telecommunications and sports.

Arbitration is a core practice area. Members have a wide range of experience from appearing as counsel on behalf of clients to accepting appointments as independent arbitrators (as sole arbitrator and as part of a panel), mediators and experts in domestic and international disputes, often where there is a foreign seat.

Litigation of complex, high-value commercial disputes is another core practice area, with members frequently appearing in the UK’s High Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court and Privy Council, as well as other international courts. Members are now registered to appear as advocates in the newly launched SICC. They are also frequently instructed in Asia for advisory work on English law and legal opinions.

Stephen Moriarty KC has been appointed, for a second term, to the panel of advisors to the Attorney-General of Singapore. Annually, chambers holds the Christopher Bathurst Prize, where the winner is given a placement at the set’s chambers in London, and in addition there are annual secondments to London held in conjunction with the Attorney-General’s Chambers and the Singapore Academy of Law.

Fountain Court’s offering has been bolstered by the admission of a number of door tenants based in the region, including Singapore, India, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.
