Position
Emily was called to the bar in 2019. She joined Exchange Chambers in 2021. She is regularly instructed for both the prosecution and the defence. She has appeared in the Youth, Magistrates, and Crown Courts, the Upper Tribunal, and the Court Martial. She is well known for her affable nature and natural ability to establish rapport with lay and professional clients.
She has been instructed as junior defence counsel in relation to Misconduct in a Public Office, VAT Fraud, and multiple drugs conspiracies. She was junior defence counsel in the largest Class A drugs conspiracy prosecuted in the UK, and in the prosecution of the largest importation of psychoactive substances since the imposition of the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016. She was also instructed as counsel in the internal disclosure exercise of a national utility company facing the prospect of a Corporate Manslaughter charge following the death of a child. She has represented children, police officers and employees, company directors, and military personnel.
She has successfully advanced and opposed bad character and hearsay applications, s.76 and s.78 applications, and half time submissions. She is regularly instructed in cases involving the s.28 procedure.
She is often privately instructed to defend driving matters and has secured successful outcomes regarding exceptional hardship and special reasons. She has dealt with driving matters involving automatism. She secured a suspended sentence order for a defendant charged with Perverting the Course of Justice for the unlawful acquisition of her partner’s penalty points.
