Career

Joshua Clements accepting instructions to prosecute and defend across all areas of criminal practice in the Magistrates’, Youth and Crown Courts.

In his first six months of pupillage, Joshua has observed matters at all stages in the Crown Court and the Magistrates’ Courts across all major areas of Chambers’ criminal practice and assisted other members of Chambers with case preparation and legal research.

Before pupillage, Joshua worked as a caseworker for the CPS in the Proceeds of Crime Team. He also has experience preparing and conducting cases as a County Court advocate. This involved holding conferences with clients and opponents, making legal submissions and handling witnesses on a regular basis.

Joshua has a First Class degree in Law and Spanish Law from the University of Oxford. In particular, he achieved a First in Advanced Criminal Law and spent a year abroad at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona, Spain studying for a Diploma in Spanish Legal Studies. Joshua represented UPF in the Jessup International Moot Court Competition, his team came second in the Spanish finals and he received personal scores of 90% – 97%.

Having been awarded the Frank Quickfall Bar Course Scholarship from Gray’s Inn, Joshua completed the Bar Course at the Inns of Court College of Advocacy (ICCA) where he gained an Outstanding score in Criminal Litigation. During this period, Joshua volunteered with JUSTICE and was awarded First Prize in the Keating Chambers and Guardian Newspaper Essay Competition and his essay discussing restrictions on the right to protest was published on the Guardian’s website
