Valerie Cross is a distinguished partner in Dentons’ nationally-recognized Banking and Finance and Restructuring, Insolvency and Bankruptcy groups. Working out of Dentons’ Toronto and Vancouver offices, Valerie has extensive experience in commercial lending, acting predominantly for lenders in large-scale corporate finance transactions. She excels at guiding both lenders and companies through a diverse range of transactions, including acquisition financings, construction loans, real estate financings, cross-border transactions, syndicated loans, subordinated/mezzanine arrangements and convertible facilities. Valerie’s experience covers a variety of industries, including technology, media, retail, hospitality, real estate, mining and forestry.

In her insolvency practice, Valerie provides practical assistance to companies, institutional lenders, monitors and trustees on issues arising in restructurings and reorganizations, both in and out of court. Her strategic insights are highly regarded, particularly in matters concerning complex commercial restructurings. Valerie’s work includes advising clients on forbearance arrangements, interim financing, distressed asset purchases and corporate governance issues for insolvent companies. Valerie has been recognized in Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in Canada for Insolvency and Financial Restructuring Law and Banking and Finance Law.

Valerie’s legal experience includes serving as the judicial law clerk to Mr. Justice Tysoe and Mr. Justice Frankel of the Court of Appeal for British Columbia. Her diverse professional background also includes previous experience working as a journalist for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Canada and London, England, as well as successfully managing Asia-Pacific public relations for an industry-leading multinational tech company.
