Dragann Mallette is a senior associate in the Tax group at Dentons’ Montréal office. He specializes in complex indirect tax matters, focusing on the goods and services tax (GST), harmonized sales tax (HST), Québec sales tax (QST), and other federal and provincial indirect tax regimes.
Known for his technically rigorous yet commercially grounded advice, consistently aligned with his clients’ strategic and operational objectives, Dragann advises a wide range of clients including public and private corporations, financial institutions, First Nations communities, Crown corporations, and not-for-profit organizations.
He assists with corporate reorganizations, transactional planning, due diligence, compliance reviews, and tax recovery, and frequently supports clients in audits and disputes with tax authorities. Dragann also advises on tax issues in insolvency and restructuring proceedings under the BIA and CCAA.
His experience extends to real estate developers and energy-sector clients, advising on acquisitions, development projects, joint ventures, infrastructure, and public-private partnerships (PPPs). He also advises investment funds and private equity firms on complex indirect tax matters affecting their operations.
Dragann supports insurers, brokers, and managing general agents (MGA) with tax issues related to insurance premium tax and other insurance-related levies. His practice further covers emerging and evolving sectors such as the carbon trading market, both voluntary and compliance-based, as well as crypto assets, digital transactions, and electronic commerce. He also provides strategic guidance on federal and provincial fuel and carbon taxes, as well as excise duties on alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, and vaping products, assisting clients in ensuring compliance and optimizing their tax positions.
A frequent speaker and published author, Dragann contributes to the broader tax community by sharing insights on legislative developments, policy changes, and market trends.
Before joining Dentons, he was a manager in the indirect tax practice of a leading international Big Four accounting firm, known for delivering high-impact advice in fast-paced environments.
