Position

Gulam is an associate with the Litigation Department at MMAKS Advocates.

Career

Gulam is an Associate in the Dispute Resolution department. He is a U.S. and Uganda-trained dispute resolution lawyer specialising in international and domestic commercial arbitration, investor-state disputes, conflict of laws, the international sale of goods, public international law, and complex litigation. 

Gulam has acted for clients such as  the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa in successfully enforcing a USD 156 million arbitral award in Uganda, and represented a Canadian listed mining company in proceedings to set aside an arbitral award for excess of mandate. He has defended major institutions such as the Central Bank of Uganda and GIZ against significant breach‑of‑duty and contract claims, and acted for several Ugandan government parastatals and private entities in complex arbitration‑related challenges involving public policy, arbitrator mandate, and procedural lapses.
