Position

Stephen Zimula is a partner the in the Dispute Resolution Team. He specialises in high‑value and complex commercial litigation in matters involving debt recovery, real estate, and tax. His experience includes recovering multimillion‑dollar sums for top commercial banks—often through the High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court—and successfully defending institutions against large claims intended to frustrate recovery efforts.

He has represented prominent real estate companies and high‑net‑worth investors in tax disputes before the Tax Appeals Tribunal, securing the withdrawal or reversal of substantial assessments. Stephen routinely advises on property acquisitions, condominium developments, and due‑diligence processes in land acquisitions.

Career

Stephen has 19 years of experience in legal practice. He joined the firm as a legal assistant in 2005, and went on to become a partner in 2015.

Stephen was awarded a scholarship fully funded by the Commonwealth with the Stephenson Harwood LLP firm  in 2016.  He was  a senior lecturer at one of Uganda leading universities where he taught  in Civil Procedure and Land Transactions. He is currently pursuing a Master of Sciences Degree in Taxation.

He is a practicing Advocate of the High Court of Uganda, a member of the Uganda Law Society and the East African Law Society.

Education

He holds an LL.B (Hons) Degree of Makerere University, a Diploma in legal practice from the Law Development Centre and a Diploma in Trial Advocacy from the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, America.

Stephen was admitted to the Uganda Bar in January 2006.
