Position
Fiona is a Partner in the Corporate Advisory Team with over 20 years of experience in multi-jurisdictional commercial transactions cutting across corporate M&A, Private Equity, Energy, Mining and Natural Resources, Projects & Infrastructure, and general corporate commercial, regulatory and investment advisory.
Her representative matters include advising on major acquisitions in the renewable energy sector—notably the acquisition of a 49.75% stake in Bujagali Energy Limited. She has supported multinational clients such as Prudential PLC, Dentsu Aegis Network, TPG Growth, and leading European gaming and telecom companies on proposed acquisitions in Uganda, covering transaction structuring, regulatory approvals, and negotiation of transaction documents. Fiona's experience extends to regulatory advisory for public‑private partnerships, and entities in the finance space (including fintechs such as Flutterwave).
Career
Before becoming a partner at MMAKS Advocates in 2017, Fiona trained at AF Mpanga Advocates (Bowmans Uganda), where she worked as an associate. She later joined Bowman Gilfillan Attorneys in Johannesburg, after which she started at MMAKS Advocates as Senior Associate and then partner.
Fiona is consistently ranked by leading global law firm directories as a highly regarded lawyer (IFLR1000), a recommended lawyer (Chambers Global), and leading lawyer (Legal500). Fiona has been described by Chambers and Partners as highly efficient, effective and customer oriented.
