Position
Steven Fineman, director and assistant general counsel of Richards, Layton & Finger, focuses his practice on intellectual property and commercial litigation.
Steve has experience litigating complex disputes in all of Delaware’s state and federal courts, including appeals to the Delaware Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
He has substantial experience in Hatch-Waxman litigation. His clients have included large pharmaceutical companies as well as technology and communications companies. Steve co-authored a chapter in ANDA Litigation: Strategies and Tactics for Pharmaceutical Patent Litigators.

In Octane Fitness LLC v. ICON Health & Fitness, the U.S. Supreme Court evaluated the language in 35 U.S.C. Section 285, a statute that allows for the award of attorney fees to prevailing parties in “exceptional” patent infringement cases, and rejected a restrictive interpretation of the statute by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
