Green energy projects have seen a notable increase in activity for the practice, William Shaughnessy and Neal Sweeney advising a US based private renewable energy company on a number of projects, including offshore wind projects in Canada, Asia and the southwest US.   • Acted as lead counsel to W&T Offshore in a successful “test case” challenge to the Department of Interior’s (DOI) retroactive application of a method for resolving royalty-in-kind delivery imbalances that resulted from DOI’s termination of its Royalty in Kind (RIK) program, pursuant to which federal lease owners delivered billions of dollars of royalties in the form of natural gas.
  • Represented Taylor Energy as lead counsel in connection with all matters arising from the 2004 toppling of Taylor Energy’s production platform at Mississippi Canyon 20 in the Gulf of Mexico.
  • Acted as lead counsel to BP Exploration & Production in a precedent-establishing lawsuit challenging the Department of the Interior’s application of both the Royalty Simplification and Fairness Act (RSFA) and the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act) to deprive federal oil and gas lessees of interest on royalty overpayments.
