Vinson & Elkins LLP > Firm Profile
The firm: Vinson & Elkins is one of the oldest and largest international law firms, founded in Houston in 1917 with approximately 700 lawyers located in 16 offices around the world, in Austin, Beijing, Dallas, Dubai, Hong Kong, Houston, London, Moscow, New York, Palo Alto, Richmond, Riyadh, San Francisco, Taipei, Tokyo and Washington DC.
The Dubai office provides a geographically centralised position to serve clients with interests in the Middle East, North Africa and the Asian subcontinent. The attorneys in Dubai work closely with those in the Riyadh office and are integrated with Vinson & Elkins’ worldwide network of offices, resulting in efficient delivery of legal advice across nearly every business sector, regardless of client location.
The firm understands the unique legal, business and regulatory issues facing clients located in, and doing business in, the Middle East. Vinson & Elkins’ lawyers have been actively involved in the ongoing development of the region’s energy sector; commodities markets and regulations; restructuring regulations; and many other areas impacting business in the UAE and internationally. This knowledge, coupled with its understanding of UAE-specific laws, frameworks and customs, is integrated with the firm’s worldwide network of offices, ensuring efficient project management and excellent service whenever and wherever clients need it.
The Dubai team includes US, English and regionally qualified lawyers. A number of Vinson & Elkins’ lawyers in the UAE are bilingual or multilingual with Arabic, English, Farsi, French and Urdu/Hindi language capabilities. These language skills allow them to more effectively and efficiently represent the interests of the firm’s clients and maintain a robust catalogue of precedent documents that provide cost savings.
Areas of practice: The Dubai office advises on corporate, structured and project finance; mergers and acquisitions; private equity; capital markets and securities; restructuring and reorganisation; energy transactions; privatisations and deregulation; and arbitration and litigation matters, with particular strength in the energy, construction, infrastructure, telecommunications, media and financial services sectors.
