James is a Legal Director at Eversheds Sutherland, advising on grid, regulatory and real estate aspects of site development, sale, acquisition, power purchase and financing of renewable energy and infrastructure projects. He has advised developers, funders and investors across all major clean energy technologies including onshore/offshore wind, solar (ground-based and rooftop), wave and tidal, biomass, anaerobic digestion, battery storage, and related schemes such as data centres, infrastructure and interconnectors.

His experience includes advising generators and offtakers on power purchase strategies across various technologies and volumes; advising grid users at transmission and distribution levels on connection arrangements, including NESO’s TMO4+ process; and advising hydrogen offtakers under the Hydrogen Allocation Rounds. He has led negotiations opposite The Crown Estate on Round 3 offshore wind extensions and advised stakeholders on Round 4 leasing.

Previously, James was a senior legal adviser at Ofgem, focusing on regulatory and funding aspects of nuclear, CCUS and offshore wind transmission.
