Top real estate and urban planning firm Pinilla González & Prieto Abogados has widened the scope of its offering beyond its calling-card practice, gaining a presence in transactional matters, particularly in relation to the pharmaceuticals and services sectors. The ten-strong multi-disciplinary team, which ‘provides excellent guidance to solve any doubt’ that may arise regarding local regulation, assisted Interconexión Eléctrica on an investment scheme for the construction of a project with expected sales above $50m. Felipe Pinilla, the ‘outstandingJulian Felipe Rojas and Camilo Andrés Hermida (who was promoted to partner in 2019) jointly lead the practice. Clients include Universidad de los Andes, Cemex, TGA Colombia and Tribeca Asset Management.

Litigation Tier 3

Leading real estate firm Pinilla González & Prieto Abogados specialises in acting for clients in the construction sector, primarily in disputes arising from the defence of private property and resolved through civil and commercial courts and arbitration. Founding partner and practice co-head Felipe Pinilla successfully led the representation of entrepreneur Carlos Alberto Solarte in several legal and arbitration procedures, aimed at suppressing different blockage attempts promoted by certain shareholders of the commercial company, CSS Constructores. Fellow practice co-heads Camilo Baracaldo and Óscar Martínez are also highlighted. In other work, the team continues to act for residential developer Amarilo in a $40m civil declaratory action. Recognised for its vast experience in local taxation related to land and property, Pinilla González & Prieto Abogados’ ‘diverse and accomplished’ team is ‘always up to date with new legislation’ and provides specialist advice on the tax aspects of real estate project development. Following the departure of Camilo Cayedo, the practice is now led by María Helena Padilla, who arrived from DIRECTV Latin America, where she had oversight of Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela, in May 2019. The team recently advised Belenus on tax planning to neutralise the impact of gift taxes arising from the sale of seven properties in a mandate valued at over $5m. The practice also successfully represented Apiros in a dispute before the tax authorities related to the refund of construction tax payments. Other highlights included advising Constructora Prodesa in determining the real estate tax of all properties owned by the company so as to optimise payment. Clients include Cimento Inmuebles Comerciales, Akila, Generarco and Jardines del Apogeo.

Energy and natural resources Tier 4

Pinilla González & Prieto Abogados strengthened its capabilities in the mining and water resources sectors with the incorporation of environmental specialist associate Natalia Nuñez as co-head of the area in conjunction with José Manuel González. The practice provides permanent legal advice to Ladrillera Santafé in relation to the company’s mining activity. Other highlights included providing legal advice and representation to Tao Tao before the local authorities to create a public services company that would supply water to more than 36,000 people. Clients include Amarilo, Prodeso, Proyectos & Diseños San Miguel and Agrobetania.
