Career
Razzaq Ahmed is an associate in Brown Rudnick’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practice Group and a member of the firm’s Brand & Reputation Management group in London. Razzaq was named in Legal 500 as a ‘Recommended’ lawyer for Banking Litigation (Investment & Retail) and a ‘Key’ lawyer in the firm’s listing for Commercial Litigation (Premium). Razzaq is described in the 2024 directory as “energetic”, “a rising star, one to watch”, and in the 2025 directory as “a star of the future”, “diligent and quick-thinking” and “a partner in all but name – smooth, charming, reassuring”. He was awarded the City of London Solicitors Company's annual prize in 2019.
He specialises in high-stakes claimant-side and defendant-side disputes, and acts for both businesses and individuals. Razzaq has particular experience advising global institutional clients on securities fraud litigation under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (FSMA). His notable recent experience includes advising over 200 global institutional investors (and over 1,000 funds) in high-profile litigation against Standard Chartered plc, in relation to international bribery allegations and breaches of international banking sanctions regulations. In particular he has been lauded for using technology in case management, being “capable of absorbing and analysing a great deal of detail” and whose “analytical skills and judgment inspire confidence.”
He has also advised high-net worth individuals, business owners, and media/sport personalities in relation to insolvency matters and shareholder disputes arising from contentious exits, valuation disagreements, unfair prejudice (including exclusion from management and deadlock). He has also been entrusted by GCs and boards in respect of reputational and governance issues arising from employee and senior management conduct. Peers have noted that Razzaq’s “empathy and creativity in problem solving is a real skill”.
Prior to joining Brown Rudnick, Razzaq was an associate at the Financial Conduct Authority, assisting on enforcement investigations into major banks for SME failings and PPI remediation planning, and was seconded to a FTSE 100 insurance company. His pro bono clients include an international youth enterprise charity, a female journalists’ network and a well-known national cricket charity.
