Career
Marcia is a young partner but an experienced lawyer with 18 years of practice, of which 10 years are focused in the regulatory sector. She has pursued graduate studies at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, where she obtained her Bachelor of Law, and at the State University of Rio de Janeiro, where she obtained her Masters in Corporate Law. She is also a member of the Special Commission for Banking Law of the Brazilian Bar Association.
In the financial regulation sector, Marcia has dedicated her career not only on matters regarding banking regulation, but also on other regulated financial markets, such as payment, cryptocurrency and sports betting. Over the years, Marcia has advised on financial regulation in the context of many M&A and capital markets operations involving banks and payment institutions. She has also acted as advisor in many relevant regulatory consultations, such as in the structuring of a new banking product involving credit assignment regulation, and advisory in the regulatory aspects applicable to the strategy of a global bank to reduce the number of its local branches.
Marcia has a relevant role in the mentorship program of her law office, Pinheiro Guimarães, by acting as advisor to younger female lawyers. Based on her owns experiences, Marcia encourages her mentees to develop their qualities and to overcome their difficulties, and she helps them identify and take advantage of opportunities to grow professionally despite any challenges they may face as women in and outside of work.
Outside of the office, Marcia is also part of a group called “Mães Atípicas” (“Atypical Mothers”), composed of lawyers that are mother of children with disabilities. As a mother of a child with Down Syndrome, she participates in this group to seek and to give encouragement to other women in the same position, who face professional and personal challenges on a daily basis. The group focus on (i) discussing public policies to benefit not only people with disabilities, but also their families, and (ii) exchanging experience and legal advice regarding regulation in the interest of people with disabilities and of their families.
