Career

Kate Edwards is recognised as one of the country’s leading experts in Court of Protection (CoP) and personal injury trust matters. She is responsible for leading and expanding our CoP offering in response to the growing demand for our deputyship and trusteeship services.

Kate’s work involves overseeing the property and financial affairs of clients who lack mental capacity through injury or illness as well as acting as trustee for children who receive compensation. She has a wealth of expertise in professional deputyship and trusteeship, including cases involving high value litigation, family disputes and high net worth individuals.

In 2012 Kate founded the Court of Protection Practitioner’s Association (CoPPA) to promote co-operation between all the professionals who work with clients who lack capacity. She continues to sit on the national executive committee. Kate is a contributing author to The Court of Protection Handbook – A User’s Guide. Kate is a member of the ad hoc Court of Protection Rules Committee and in 2020, she was invited by Mr Justice Hayden to join the ‘Hive Committee’ – a small group of key individuals who could consult rapidly on the issues affecting the working of the CoP during the pandemic.
