Partner and Head of Music

Pete Bott started his career in the music industry as a performer, producer, and songwriter. After gaining first-hand experience as an artist, he retrained as a solicitor and qualified at Blacks in 2012.

He moved to London in 2015 to work with two specialist music law firms before returning to Blacks in 2022 as a Partner and Head of Music.

Pete understands the music industry from the inside out. Clients value his clear, practical approach and his ability to explain complex legal issues in a way that feels straightforward and relevant. He works closely with artists, their managers and wider teams to give joined up advice that supports long term careers.

His clients include established arena level acts such as Bring Me The Horizon and Hybrid Minds, alongside emerging artists. Pete also looks after business affairs for a number of independent record labels, supporting in house teams with negotiations and agreements.

He advises on all areas of music law, including recording, distribution, publishing, management, production, merchandising and licensing.

Pete was shortlisted as a Rising Star at the Yorkshire Legal Awards in 2014 and regularly speaks at UK and international music industry events.
