Career

Ruwaydah is an Attorney-at Law. She joined the firm in 2015. Since February 2023 she holds the positions of partner and director at Uteem Chambers.

She is regularly called upon to assist clients from various jurisdictions in prominent corporate and commercial litigation before the Mauritian Courts. This includes major shareholders’ disputes, disputes between directors, derivative actions, application to set aside statutory demand, bankruptcy proceedings, insolvency proceedings, administration proceedings and restoration of companies.

She is regularly called upon to assist clients from various jurisdictions in high profile civil cases before the Mauritian Courts. This includes cases relating to laws of trust, tax cases, exequatur proceedings, road accident cases, medical negligence cases, recovery procedures (including saisie), industrial disputes, landlord and tenant disputes, writ habere facias possessionem applications, judicial review applications, application for water rights and election petitions.

She regularly assists clients in family disputes, including divorce proceedings, custody proceedings, alimony proceedings, proceedings for right of visit and droit d’hebergment, applications to take child outside the jurisdiction of Mauritius, adoptions and change of matrimonial regime.

She has acquired considerable experience in various types of appeal cases before the Supreme Court and the Court of Civil of Appeal in Mauritius. She has also been involved in applications seeking leave to appeal to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.

She has assisted clients before various tribunals in Mauritius such as the Assessment Review Committee, Public Bodies Appeal Tribunal, Industrial Property Tribunal and the Environment and Land Use Appeal Tribunal.

She has assisted clients from various jurisdictions in relation to industrial property law in Mauritius, including filing applications for registration and renewal of trademarks and representing clients before the Mauritian Court in relation to disputes concerning industrial property.
