The firm is this year celebrating its 125^th anniversary having been founded in 1895 by Thomas Godfrey Baynes who opened the first office in Bexleyheath. A number of years later Thomas was joined by his sons Norman and Reggie and in time Norman’s two sons, Michael and John also joined the firm. Strong links were maintained with the Baynes family until Michael Baynes retired in 1985. TG Baynes has since expanded by incorporation with other local practices and the firm now consists of 13 partners, 10 solicitors, 2 legal executives, 4 paralegals, 4 consultants and over 60 other support members of staff.

The private client department includes qualified members of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and staff can offer expert advice in relation to powers of attorney, Court of Protection applications, wills, probate applications, Inheritance Claims under the 1975 Act and contested wills.

The family and matrimonial department have been awarded the quality mark necessary to provide public funding work. Services offered include divorce and financial applications, Children Act and care proceedings, injunction proceedings, separation agreements and pre and post nuptial agreements.

TG Baynes also provides a diverse range of services in the civil litigation department and staff can assist with landlord and tenant issues, contractual disputes, repossession proceedings, employment issues, debt recovery and enforcement of judgments.

The residential conveyancing department at TG Baynes is proud to have been CQS accredited since 2012. This confirms the firm follows the conveyancing protocol and best practise management standards meaning our staff have the necessary skills and expertise to provide residential conveyancing advice. In addition to dealing with sales, purchases and re-mortgages of residential property, TG Baynes also provides advice and assistance in relation to equity release mortgages and transfers of equity.

Finally, TG Baynes can provide assistance for businesses and individuals in relation to commercial property transactions including the sale or purchase of freehold or leasehold property, the grant or assignment of a commercial lease, overage agreements, option agreements and commercial mortgages. The firm’s commercial department also deal with business sales and purchases.

TG Baynes is able to offer fixed fee arrangements for some of the services offered to individuals to ensure transparency of the costs involved for certain matters. Fixed fee services are provided for residential conveyancing, debt collection, wills and some matrimonial department appointments. Our matrimonial department also offer a free 15 minute telephone consultation for initial advice and assistance.
