The firm: Founded in 2003 by ten professionals in the IP sector, HFG now counts 80 professionals distributed throughout Shanghai and Beijing and consists of three entities authorised by the Ministry of Justice, recorded with the China Trademark Office and licensed under the State of Intellectual Property Office for all patent related practice. Since its foundation, HFG has focused its practice on litigation, anti-counterfeiting, trade mark filing and administrative disputes, patent filing and prosecution, copyright, and media. HFG continues to strengthen its international reputation remaining a recommended practice by The Legal 500 since 2010 (No 1 in Shanghai), IP Star by Managing Intellectual Property, recommended firm since 2014 by WTR1000 and leading firm since 2014 for Chambers Asia Pacific.

The firm has vast experience – and a high success rate – in litigation before courts, arbitration commissions and administrative enforcement committees. HFG is developing a strong reputation in corporate practice, helping clients to understand how their business models should be implemented and optimised in the PRC legal/administrative system. Providing turn-key solutions for investment setup (WFOE, JV, Rep offices, branch) and restructuring, HFG staff are regularly involved in contract drafting/negotiations (distribution, sale/supply, manufacturing, consulting agreements) and in labour law issues.
HFG services has a special focus on IT and telecom, petrochemical, wine and liquors, fashion, cosmetics, retail and e-commerce, food and pharma regulatory, licensing and monetisation of patented technology. In 2017 HFG conducted over 2,000 trade mark filings, more than 80 litigations in relation to IPRs, over 500 anti-counterfeiting actions including, but not limited to, administrative and criminal cases, 600 trade mark administrative disputes (such as opposition, cancellation appeal against rejection, etc), five mergers and acquisition cases, etc.
Among the team, the partners have an average of 17 years’ experience in the field. Fabio Giacopello is a member of the INTA’s Internet Committee, recommended lawyer by The Legal 500, notable practitioner by Chambers and Partners, and arbitrator at the Shanghai International Arbitration Centre (SIAC). In 2016 Fabio was named IP Star by Managing Intellectual Property for trademarks and patents in China. Daisy Yao, the head of the trademark filing and prosecution team, is a recommended lawyer by The Legal 500. Lanny Li is a board member of pre-litigation Mediation Committee of Shanghai Pudong Intellectual Property Association. Nicola Aporti is a winner of the Client Choice Award for litigation.

The team boasts an international and multi-jurisdiction background with multi-language command.
